As summer vacation gets underway, Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools wants to make sure every family knows about a valuable resource for keeping kids well-fed all summer long.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, provides free meals to children 18 years and younger when school is not in session. There are no registration requirements, no income qualifications, and no other eligibility hurdles — kids and teens simply show up at mealtimes and receive a free breakfast, lunch, snack, or dinner, depending on what the site offers.
While Doniphan-Trumbull will not be operating as a summer meal site this year, several nearby locations are participating through Grand Island Public Schools and Hastings Public Schools.
Grand Island Public Schools Summer Meal Program
Meals are free for children ages 1–18. No application needed. Adults may purchase a meal for $5.75 (exact cash change required). Sites may close early due to low participation. Follow GIPS Eats on Facebook for updates.
