Senior Charlee Richter slammed the ball into the ground for a record-breaking kill — her 1,199th, on Oct. 23. It’s a milestone that marks a huge accomplishment for both Richter and the Doniphan-Trumbull volleyball team. Charlee credits her success to the unwavering support of her family, coaches, and teammates.

“My family has been at my side through it all. They show me what real love and support are, both on and off the court,” said Richter. “My biggest supporter is my mom because she always believes in me, pushes me to do my best, and supports me no matter what.”

Richter’s love for volleyball started early, with her family cheering her on every step of the way.

“I first started playing the game in third grade,” she said. “Honestly, I’ve loved the game since I was young, but the love that our state has for volleyball is unmatched. It inspires me to keep improving and strive to be my best.”

Throughout her journey, Richter has had the support of her coaches, teammates, and family. The Doniphan-Trumbull volleyball team has grown stronger over the years, thanks to its close bond.

“Our team chemistry this year was incomparable to any of the years I’ve been on the team,” Richter said. “Even though we had our ups and downs, you could always look beside you and have a teammate you could trust and rely on. It was such a pleasure to play with my best friends and share the love of the game together.”

Richter has also dedicated time outside the regular season to improve her skills. She attended the Exact X1 Showcase Camp — a high-level training program for top athletes aspiring to play at the collegiate level.

“The camp helped me get out of my comfort zone, meet new girls, and better my game,” she said.

As her high school career comes to an end, Richter looks ahead to continuing her volleyball journey in college.

“I’m planning on playing volleyball in college, either at the University of Nebraska at Kearney or Hastings College,” said Richter.

Breaking the school record was a remarkable accomplishment — one that brought together her team, coaches, and family in celebration of all her hard work and dedication.
