Owala water bottle: DT’s new bottle of choice

By: Austin Witter

The owala waterbottle, which was developed in 2020 and primarily manufactured in China, is the new gender nutural trend at DT, with many students and staff choosing this bottle to stay hydrated.

“I like this water bottle and all its features, like the leak-proof lid and the straw/SIP design,” said junior water bottle aficionado Garret Westwood.

Owala is a U.S.–based brand under Trove Brands, a Utah-based company founded by Steve and Kim Sorensen.

The Owala water bottle, which costs  $30 - $100 depending on size and design, gained popularity on TikTok. It is leak-proof, and the design has made it popular with those who hope to stay hydrated on the go. It has a large gap above the straw, the SIP method of drinking, so users can tilt it back and drink. The other drinking option is the straw. The bottle comes with a push-button lid for leak-proof, easy access.

The color designs that Owala offers are another thing that has users excited. Users can choose from a regular white or black, but the company also offers nearly any color under the sun and often releases limited edition color drops with fun names like “80s sofa,” “ships ahoy,” and “Flip Flop Flashback.”

Sophomore Clair Schultz notes, “I like the colors and how it's easy to use and lightweight, so I can carry it around.”

Despite its lightweight design, the insulation in the water bottle can hold ice for up to 24 hours, according to the official Owoala website.

Senior Preston Witter admits, “I like this brand because if I leave it in my car or somewhere hot, it will keep the ice. Also, if I drop it, it doesn't spill or break.”

This water bottle has taken Doniophan-Trumbull by storm and has become a fixture in classrooms and the halls. It’s safe to say, DT students are staying hydrated in style.
