As Valentine’s Day comes around the corner, Student Council members are busy with Valograms. The Journalism kids pitch in their creative ideas to help as well with the design. They use great teamwork and put on an amazing fundraiser for the Student Council.
“Valograms are a way that students and teachers both can remind their friends and
family how important they are,” says senior and President of Student Council, Danae Rader.
The tradition at DT is that every Valentine’s Day, the Student Council sells Valograms. Last year was the first year that Journalism students were involved. The Journalism students designed the Valentine’s. When a student buys the Valogram, they get to add a personalized note to whoever they are sending it to. Journalism students made eight different designs, and the buyer gets to decide which one they want to give to whoever they bought it for.
“Their designs are so much fun and add a more personalized touch,” says Student Council sponsor and JH English teacher, Gail Saathoff.
Each Valogram is $2. The money that the Student Council makes goes towards the Student Council’s expenses, such as Homecoming and the scholarship they award each year. Last year, Student Council members sold 5-8 cookies each. This year each member is hoping to sell at least 4 Valograms, but the members always go above and beyond during this sale.
This year students can buy Valograms starting January 25th, and the fundraiser ends on February 4th. Student Council used to buy the cookies from Eileen’s, but last year they decided they wanted to support a local business. They bought cookies from Red Bird Bakery. Again this year, they will be purchasing sugar cookies from Red Bird. The cookies will be delivered on February 11th during MAP.
“Valograms are a great way to spread holiday cheer and put a smile on a student or staff’s faces,” says committee member Kayla Kennedy.
