As the new school year approached, Doniphan-Trumbull announced that Mr. Tyler Mogilefsky would be taking charge of the athletic department as the new Athletic Director.  When Mr. Brent Breckner, the former athletic director, announced his departure, Mogilefsky saw the opportunity to be a leader, not just in sports but as a teacher as well.

Mogilefsky said, “AD is the perfect blend of some administrative and leadership opportunities, while still being able to teach. It’s the best of both worlds!”

An athletic director oversees that the athletic programs are running as smoothly as possible. Some of their clerical jobs include making and communicating schedules as well as lining up referees, lines judges, and bookkeepers. They also make sure all of the teams have uniforms for their athletes to represent Doniphan-Trumbull. More importantly, an athletic director’s job is to encourage and facilitate student-athletes to be their best in sports, school, and life.

Senior cheerleader Brylee Shafer said, “I think Mogs is doing a really good job being an AD; our sporting events and schedules are fairly organized this year, and he’s doing a really good job handling the AD position and teaching position.”

Mogilefsky has been at Doniphan-Trumbull for 8 years. He received his bachelor of education from Hastings College in Elementary Education, Special Education, and 4-9 science and his master’s degree from UNK in Educational Administration. In previous years he has taught science, social studies and reading classes. He’s also been an assistant coach for the football team as well as a junior high track coach.

Mogilefsky is up for the challenge, saying he looks forward to, “Getting to see kids compete/ perform in something they’re passionate about!”
