Old HOCO Ideas Have Got to Go
Rejected HOCO Ideas > Current Ones?

Homecoming is an exciting time for everyone that’s involved in the school or has come through the school. It’s a chance to dress up funny, enjoy a football game and to dance the night away at the end of the week. The dress up days are always a highlight because you get to see students' creativity and how wacky some of their ideas are. But, while this week’s ideas are nice and classic; we are definitely missing some of the creativity that has been around in previous years. These are some of the rejected ideas that the Student Council came up with for this week’s celebration.
“Gender Bender” was going to be a gender swap day for the students and faculty of DT. A day like this could see boys with ponytails, tutus, and other more feminine clothing while girls could be seen in football gear, athletic shorts, and other things that are typically described as masculine. While there is some room for offense to be found in this topic, the idea could be regulated to avoid the possibility of offending anyone and keep everyone having fun and being creative. So while this was rejected and maybe for a fair reason, it still would’ve been fun to participate in and witness.
“Joe Day” would’ve been a day where you dress up as a famous Joe. Popular choices for the day could’ve included Joe Biden, Joe Montana, Joey Fatone, Joe Jonas, and the infinite amount of other Joe’s that you could think up. This could be the alternative to “Spirit Day”, where the student body is encouraged to dress up in Cardinal clothing? Spirit Day is boring because of the fact that most students are already wearing school clothing on any other day. So why was Joe rejected? Who knows, but the idea is very creative and would’ve sparked amazing ideas.
I saved my personal favorite for last because I believe that this would’ve been the most creative, and probably the most hilarious idea in Doniphan-Trumbull HOCO history. “Anything but a Backpack” would’ve been a day where students carry their supplies in “anything but a backpack”. This idea has infinite possibilities as some would come in with a shopping cart, a wheelbarrow, a trash can, the possibilities are amazing. Unlike the “Gender Bender”, which may have had good reasoning to be rejected, this idea makes little to no sense to be rejected.
Homecoming week is fun and exciting like always, but new ideas that have been rejected would have made the week an even more exciting time for everyone involved in the school. So while new ideas are brought up, the old ones stay and begin to make the week more and more bland. New ideas will inspire creativity, make the week more exciting, and improve the environment at DT tremendously.
