DT opens season with new staff

By: Jaden Williams

The team is two games into its season, and fans have undoubtedly noticed a new head coach around the Doniphan-Trumbull football team. New head football coach Mr. Jordan Conner is joined by some familiar faces as well as a few new assistants.

Many people around the community are very excited to see Conner take the job as the head football coach, as is Conner.

Conner stated, “I am very excited about accepting the position, and I am excited about doing it at Doniphan-Trumbull with this group of kids.”

Conner has been around the game of football for many years. He played football for eight years, four at Silver Lake high school and four at Hastings College. This will be his twelfth season of coaching at DT and his first year being the head coach.

He became the head coach after former head coach and AD Mr. Brent Breckner accepted another job at Osceola High School. Conner was Breckner’s assistant for 11 years, so he has a lot of experience and knowledge about the culture here at DT and hopes to continue the tradition of excellence he’s worked to build with the Cardinals.

Sophomore Benjamin VanDiest said, “Conner talks about how much he loves his team on a daily basis. He shows this by giving us positive feedback and correcting us when we need to be corrected.”

Conner is joined on the sideline by returning coaches as well as a few new Cardinals in the nest.  Assistant coach, Mr. Tyler Mogilefsky, has been coaching at DT for eight years and will be coaching the offensive and defensive line.  Coach Mr. Matt Greathouse has also returned to help setup all the technology, including the iPads, cameras, and headsets.

New assistant coaches on the team include Mr. Tyson Price who graduated from DT with the class of 2018. Price will coach the defensive backs and receivers. We also have a few new volunteer coaches including Dr. Avery Umphreys and Mr. Rashad Moxi. Coach Umphreys is the special teams coach, and Coach Moxi helps Mogs with the offensive and defensive line.

You can find Connor and his assistants on the sideline as the Cardinals will be in action every Friday until October 22.
