Greatest Grandmas Around: Another Place To Call Home

Greatest Grandmas Around

Another place to call home

Grandmothers are a family’s greatest treasure. Having a good relationship with a grandma is just good for the soul; they are not only a mother to your own mom but they are another mom to yourself from making you your favorite meal, or taking you to the park just to play. They know how to bake the best cookies and give the best hugs. Grandma’s are the best.

I have been blessed in my life with many great grandparents who have supported me and taught me life’s most valuable lessons.

My great-grandma Micki, for example, provided our family with a very strong foundation; she taught us about the importance of loving life and each other. She made the world a little kinder and a little warmer. She taught me that there are no strangers in life if you take the time to get to know someone.

The traditions that most families have, be it annual gatherings or silly holiday games, have been carried on and on by generations of grandmas. Our family values our traditions just like all other families, and these things that we look forward to each year have been carried on by my grandma Shelley, also known as Nana. My Nana is one of the most genuine and kind-hearted people I’ve ever met, she has taught me how to go the extra distance for people and has always pushed me to be the best version of myself.

Whether you have a grandma or a nana or a whatever, they are a treasure. Grandmas can be called by so many different names such as Mimi, GG, Granny, Grammy, Abuela, Bubbe and Nonna, but no matter what you call them, they will always be there for you.

Not everyone has easy access to their grandma; some grandmas are just down the street but others are across the country or further, but no matter how far away, a good grandma is always just a video call away.  Visit your grandma or call her because just the presence of a grandma can be good for your soul. They are some of the most affectionate people you’ll meet. My father’s mom who also happens to be named Micki is one of my biggest supporters in life. She has taught me how to bake cakes, sew blankets and all kinds of different skills I’ll need in my day-to-day life. I know I can always count on her.

It’s an undeniable fact there’s no place like home, except when you’re at grandma’s. They bake your favorite type of cookies, listen to your problems, give the best advice, have the best stories and are always supportive just because they love you. Grandma’s make the world go round.
