On Tuesday, Oct. 5 the DT volleyball team hosted a triangular at home against the Giltner Hornets and the Heartland Huskies. The Cardinals came out victorious winning both games in two sets.
Junior Addie Fay said, “I thought that the team did a really great job the whole night. When we were down we all came together as a team and worked through it.”
The DT varsity volleyball team won the non-conference match-up against the Huskies by a score of 2-0. The Huskies have a record of 7 wins and 15 losses. The D1 school knew that they would have a tough match-up against the Lady Cardinals. DT came out in the first set winning 18-25. The Huskies fought hard in the second set but couldn’t overcome the swings coming from sophomore Kaleah Olson. Olson had led the Cardinals with 10 kills. The score ended up being 18-25 in the second set of the match.
Sophomore Olivia Hoppe said, “I think the girls did a really great job against the Huskies. They executed what we have been practicing in practice. You could feel the energy from the bench; you could tell they wanted to win.”
The Giltner Hornets come into the match with a record of 5 wins and 14 losses. In the first set, the Cardinals had it easy. The Hornets defense couldn't keep up with senior Sophie Fitch's 12 kills. The final score of the first set ended up being 14-25. In the second set though, the Hornets battled back by getting a few ace serves on the Cardinals. The second set ended with a score of 25-26.
Head Coach Mrs. Gina Fitch said, “The girls did a really good job in the first set and had great serve receive that got to our setter for our hitters to get a good hit off of it. We were in the system for most of that set. In the second set though the girls got lazy on serve receive and didn’t execute as well as they could have.”
The DT volleyball team has a record of 12 wins and 9 losses. Let's see if the girls can overcome their next opponent St. Paul.

The volleyball girls look to their coach before the game starts.
