Homecoming is a week that DT students look forward to each year. Students and staff are given the opportunity to show their school spirit by participating in dress up week. Each day is assigned a different theme decided by the Student Council. These themes are, Pajama day, Country vs. Country club, Color Wars, Hawaiian and everyone ended the week with Spirit day.
“Pajama day is my favorite because I can roll out of bed and go to school. It makes me tired going to school in my pajamas cause I wish I could be laying in bed,” said eighth-grader Charlee Richter.
To add to the excitement of the week, students get some friendly competitions during MAP games. Games include; Ships and Sailors, DodgeBall, McDonalds, Musical Chairs and Hula Hoops. It is a fun way to break up the daily learning and have fun with friends. The grade that wins the game that day will earn points towards their score. Whoever ends up with the most points wins Homecoming week. This year the senior class won, juniors came in second, freshman ended in third and in last place was the sophomore class.
“My favorite homecoming game is dodge ball because I like the competition. My class is competitive and tries to win. I also feel that I am very good at dodgeball, so I have an advantage,” said sophomore Ridley Sadd.
During the week, students vote on grade level royalty. Each student is given the opportunity to vote for their grade and the King and Queen, who are selected from the senior class. This year's King and Queen, Jake McCarty and Dylan Hasset, were announced at the conclusion of the football game on Friday. The rest of the court is announced at the pep rally on Friday. Juniors were Bree Donohue and Abe Stutzman, sophomores Emily Shimmin and Kaedan Detamore and freshman Miley Berlie and Nate Collinson. In addition to the royalty reveal, the pep rally has games that each class participates in. It's a time when the school comes together and shows their school spirit. This year's pep rally was one to remember. The staff all participated in the Cha-Cha slide leading the whole school to join in. There was also a Tik-Tok competition with each grade. Seniors Blake Detamore, Ethan Smith and Myles Sadd win the competition ending their dances with back flips and splits.
Friday’s football game was against the Sandy Creek Cougars. The football team battled the Cougars and came out with a win. Following the game, students danced the night away in the gym. After a stressful week of classes, students enjoyed letting loose.
“I really wanted to win our homecoming game and I’m glad we accomplished our goal. The Cougars put up a tough fight, but what brought us to victory was playing as a team and coming together. Winning that game made dancing all night a lot more fun and was the perfect ending to a great week.” said quarterback Jaden Williams.

Students battled each other in a competitive game of musical chairs in map games last Thursday.
