DT added a New Cardinal To the Flock

DT hires a new teacher in the Social Studies Department

A new Cardinal has joined the history department this year. First-year teacher Ms. Abigail Huggins will serve as the new middle school and sociology teacher this year. Huggins is also set to coach the speech team this winter. 

“Ms. Huggins is a great addition to our staff. Actually, within the first few minutes of meeting her, Mr. Hendricks and I knew that she would be a great fit. Her content knowledge of history was impressive as was her educational philosophy,” said Mrs.Goracke

Huggins, who is originally from the Grand Island area, graduated from Heartland Lutheran High School. After high school, Huggins pursued her interest in teaching at Concordia University, where she earned a degree in Secondary (7-12) Social Sciences in 2021. Huggins student taught at both York High School and East Butler High School in Brainard, NE. 

History is more to Huggins than just looking at the past and telling people about it. She has had a passion for history for many years. Her dream is to share her love and passion with students and others by teaching and inspiring others in and outside of school.

“I love my subjects, and I love seeing students learn and grow, and what better way to combine those two,” said Huggins.
