` Last Monday the Doniphan-Trumbull Volleyball Team played their first Loup Platte Conference game against Ravenna, and the Cardinals flew past the Bluejays in an exciting match. The Bluejays ranked 32, and the Cardinals ranked 34.

In the first set, the DT girls started out strong with an ending score of 21-9. Junior Addie Fay had 11 serves in a row to seal the set score, and put the Cardinals with a big lead.

“I felt very confident after the first set because it was an easy win, but I knew we still had to show up and play our best because Ravenna is a talented team,” said Fay.

Overviewing the strong first set, the Cardinals communicated well and worked together. Not only was their offence strong but their defence was as well, senior Sophie Fitch came out with 5 kills, and right behind her was sophomore Kaleah Olson with 4. The team was ready to carry their energy on the second set of the night.

In the second set the Lady Cardinals fell short in an intense battle by 5 points with an ending score of 25-20, but that didn’t stop senior Kendyl Brummund from getting 6 digs in the back row.

“We had a lot of faith in our team and felt confident that we would come back in the next set,” said sophomores Ridley Sadd and Olivia Hoppe.

In the third set the Cardinals fell short again by six this time with an ending score of 25-19. Down two sets to one the Cardinals found their power back by reversing the score 25-19 to win the third set. Two juniors, Fay and Madie Osler, each had a stuff block pumping the team up again. The adrenaline throughout the team carried on through the stands.

The crowd cheered loudly as the battle continued into a fifth set to 15. Down by 3, junior Kayla Kennedy slammed down a kill that won the serve back for the Cardinals. Then Olson hit the line  to earn the team three ace serves. With DT up by one, the Bluejays called a timeout.

“During the timeout, I was feeling really confident that our team would be able to finish the game after the challenging sets we came back from,” said Fitch.

Back on the court, the teams played long rallies each earning a point, but the Cardinals fell short, losing the game 15-11.

The Cardinals are looking to rebound on Thursday against the Arcadia Loup City Rebels, and Woodriver Eagles as they finish out the Lou Platte Conference tournament.
