The Doniphan-Trumbull football team received their third win of the season against the Superior Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 15. The Cardinals had not played Superior in the previous year due to Covid. Although the Cardinals started off slow, they won 29-7.

Sophomore Benjamin VanDiest said, “We were feeling extra motivated because Superior had scheduled us as their homecoming game, and we knew we could get the job done.”

The Cardinals had received the ball to start the game and marched it all the way down to the thirty-yard line before a turnover on downs. The Cardinals then forced a three and out on the Wildcats and got the ball back. The game was back and forth like this until the Cardinals ran a fake punt on their twenty-yard line and did not succeed. Superior then took advantage of the great field position and punched the ball into the endzone for a touchdown.

The Cardinals then received the kick and on the next play, sophomore Kaedan Detamore received a pass and ran the ball all the way down to the five-yard line, and senior Blake Detamore ran the ball into the endzone for a touchdown. At halftime, the score was 7-7.

Kaedan Detamore said, “I was feeling confident in our ability to get the win after our halftime adjustments.”

Doniphan-Trumbull kicked the ball off to Superior to start the second half and forced a three and out. The next play Blake Detamore pulled off a thirty-yard gain to get the ball to the five-yard line, and he ran the ball into the endzone for another touchdown. Doniphan-Trumbull also scored on the two-point play to make the game 15-7. The Cardinals ended up scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals ran the clock out by running the ball and forcing three and outs. They scored no touchdowns in the fourth quarter and the game ended with a score of 29-7.

Senior Myles Sadd said, “I was very excited to beat Superior during their homecoming game, and am looking forward to beating Sutton next week.”
