Cardinals Soar Past The Cougars: DT's Slow Start Doesn't Faze Them

Cardinals soar past the Cougars

DT’s slow start doesn’t faze them

Doniphan-Trumbull was looking to get their second win of the season against the 3-5 Sandy Creek Cougars on Oct. 8. Last year, DT beat SC in a blowout game, 36-0. Sandy Creek was looking to get revenge on Doniphan-Trumbull but ended up falling  36-24 on DT’s homecoming and parents’ night.

Sophomore QB Jaden Williams said, “We were hungry to get a win, and I felt our gameplan could get the job done”

Sandy Creek got the ball to start the game but DT forced a 3 and out. DT came out with a couple of big runs with momentum, but their drive came to an urgent stop when they fumbled the ball and SC recovered it. They capitalized on DT’s turnover by scoring a touchdown and putting the firsts points on the board with a score of 8-0.

The second quarter had started, and DT came out again with a couple of big passing plays and runs. But again, all momentum stopped when DT fumbled it, and SC recovered. SC then capitalized on DT’s turnover with a 25-yard touchdown throw to WR, Micah Biltoft.

DT got the momentum that they had lost earlier in the game back and Senior RB, Blake Detamore scored a 7-yard touchdown with a little over 2 minutes left in the first half. However, 2 minutes is all the SC needed to drive 60 yards and score a touchdown with little to no time left in the first half.

Sophomore TE Ben VanDiest said “I was feeling confident we could get the job done with the adjustments we made and with the energy we had”

The teams came out of halftime with their halftime adjustments and it worked for the Cardinals who scored on their first drive and never looked back. Doniphan-Trumbull scored 2 times in the 3rd quarter and 2 more times in the fourth quarter while shutting out Sandy Creek in the second half.

Senior RB Blake Detamore said, “It felt good to finally get another win and I am looking forward to added to the win column next week.”

Doniphan-Trumbull added another win to their record and is looking forward to doing the same next week against the Superior Wildcats.
