DT welcomes new librarian

By: Ethan Smith

New librarian, Mrs. Julie Hendricks begins a new experience as she starts at Doniphan-Trumbull this fall. Beginning a new job can be challenging but Hendricks is excited for a new challenge at a smaller school.

“I enjoy working at a smaller school because it is easier to know all the kids and parents on a personal level. For example, I went to the junior high football game; it was cool because I knew all of the kids playing on a personal level,” Hendricks said.

Hendricks has never been a librarian before, so this is a new chapter for her life. She previously taught 6-8th grade English at Barr Middle School in Grand Island. Before that, she was a mail carrier for USPS. When she moved to Doniphan she began a massage business along with her job at the school. Hendricks stays busy between massages and school. Although running a business and teaching presents its own unique problems, Hendricks is up to the challenge.

”A challenge I will have is running the scholastic book fair, I have never done that before,” said Hendricks.

However, Hendricks doesn’t spend her day just sitting around planning the book fair or waiting for students to check out books, she also teaches K-6 digital citizenship, and 7th/8th grade reading.

Hendricks said, “I am most comfortable with middle school students because I have worked with them before, and I enjoy working with them.”

The new librarian is very excited about all of the upcoming tasks that come with the new job and getting better acquainted with her students.

“I look forward to watching them grow in both athletics, and academics,” said Mrs. Hendricks.
