High School Laptop Check-In

April 26, 2010

Attention High School Parents and Students:
In May, all high school students will be checking in their laptops for summer maintenance.  All laptops will be re-imaged and the contents of the hard drive will be erased.  Students are responsible for backing up their own files on an external storage device (ex.:  USB flash drive or portable hard drive).  Check in for seniors will be on Wednesday, May 5th and all 9-11th grade students will check their laptops in on Tuesday, May 18th.

Although most students have taken excellent care of their laptops, some have reported damage.  As stated in the Student Pledge for Laptop Use, students are "responsible for all damage or loss caused by neglect or abuse" and they "agree to pay for the replacement of...power cords, battery, or laptop case in the event any of these items are lost or stolen."  Damage caused to any laptop, be it accidental or abusive, is the responsibility of the student.

In December, students turned in their laptops for inspection and updates.  At that time, damages were recorded.  If students do not have any additional fees accrued by the end of the year due to missing or damaged items, they will not owe the district any money for laptop fees.  Students will be charged appropriately for damages to their laptop after the computer has been seen by an Apple certified technician.  That technician verifies if the damage or computer malfunction is covered by our Apple Care Warranty.
