Trees Gone at D-T
You may have been in shock and awe the first time you drove your children to Doniphan-Trumbull School. Yes, the large trees that donned our sidewalks have been removed. The removal of the trees was not done on a whim. A tree specialist had been called in to assess the health of the trees only to find out that a fungus had taken over a number of the trees. Trimming these big guys was not an option either. As our tree specialist explained that the trees wouldn’t handle a good trimming session. And lastly the tree roots themselves were causing the sidewalks to move and buckle creating too great a variance for the safety of those who attend school activities. Our city village had also tagged some areas of the sidewalk along Plum Street on the school side that needed to be repaired.
The school hopes to be able to come back with some other sidewalk/school beatification ideas that could include dwarf trees and flowers in large planters placed at the entrances along Plum Street.
Remember change is a necessity of life and done for the good of all.
