Future Outdoor Classroom
Outdoor Classroom:
The Peaceful Playground Committee is working on its third phase of development of play and learning. The goal of this committee is to create an outdoor classroom that will be accessible for all Doniphan-Trumbull students. The land has been purchased but is not developed for student exploration at this time. The committee will depend on contributions, grants and the school board to make this dream come true. Two families have already contributed money to the D-T Foundation and earmarked their dollars for the Playground. If you want to contribute and have it be tax deductible, the Foundation would be an option for you. This project will take several years to complete based on the complexity and nature of this dream.
The land that has been purchased for this project is adjacent to the football field.
Goals
• To improve academic performance.
• Encourage environmental conservation
• Develop social responsibility
• Students will grow fruits and vegetables and eat their produce.
Objectives:
• Students will have a chance to use large and small motor skills
• Students would use their five senses to explore the natural world around them.
• Students will develop observation skills.
• Students will have real experiences with the natural world and how it relates to their learning in the classroom.
• Students will have separate centers to explore, stage, planting area, digging area, climbing area, grassy area, flowers, log area to gather and sit, etc.
