Drivers Education Class @ DTHS

The preliminary sign up for Driver's Education ended February 5th.  This was helpful in getting a rough number of students interested in the course.

The Nebraska Safety Center provides four phases of instruction to students learning to drive. The first phase is the classroom. The second and third phases include a driving range and simulation facility and are housed at the Ron and Carol Cope Nebraska Safety Center for Safety Education and Research in Kearney (Driving Range). Simulation develops perception, judgment, exposure to a variety of road surfaces, driver impairment and reaction skills. Students practice vehicle operation and specific maneuvers during the multiple vehicle driving range phase. The fourth phase is on-street instruction in actual traffic situations.

Facts about the Provisional Operators Permit (POP)

During the first six months of the POP: the holder can only operate a motor vehicle with no more than one passenger who is not an immediate family member and who is under nineteen years of age.
The holder of a school learner's Permit (LPE), a school permit (SCP), Learner's Permit (LPD), or Provisional Operational Permit (POP) shall not use any type of interactive wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle.

In order to obtain a school permit, the student must hold a LPE for at least two months
before they can apply for a SCP. They must also be at least 14 years and two months old,
but younger than 16 years and three months of age to be issued a SCP. The SCP expires
when the individual is 16 years and three months of age.
The POP cannot be issued until the individual turns 16, and has held a LPD for at least
six months and has not accumulated three or more points on their driving record during
the six month period immediately preceding the POP application date.

More information about times and costs will be forth coming.

Any questions contact the high school office.
